Google: Tools That Grow With You

What happens when you tell a deeply human story, using nothing but a user interface?

Direction · Design · Animation · Concepting

When a product becomes part of how people live, plan, and grow, it stops being software and becomes part of the fabric of everyday life. So instead of showing the people, we told their story solely through their interactions with the products.

The Problem

Today, product videos all look the same. With the rise of AI, that problem seems to have only gotten worse.

When you mention AI today, many people put their guard up. The technology might be extraordinary, but the way we talk about it has become increasingly familiar: feature lists, glowing interfaces, impossible promises and the same story of doing more than ever before.

We wanted a more human way in.

Insight

Google's products already sit inside some of the most important moments in people's lives.

A search can be the beginning of something. A spreadsheet can hold years of saving. A calendar can chart a career, a childhood, or an entire chapter of someone's life.

Individually, they're just everyday interactions. Put them together, and they can tell a surprisingly human story.

The Idea

We asked ourselves: “What happens when you tell a deeply human story using nothing but a user interface?”

So we let the product do the storytelling, following a family through their interactions within Google products.

From figuring out how to afford a first home, to a promotion, a mortgage, a daughter, and eventually seeing her become her own person.

How We Positioned Gemini

We wanted Gemini to play a supporting role.

It appears when it's useful: helping make sense of information, organise what's important and make the next step easier.

Because perhaps the most compelling vision for AI is one where it just helps us get on with our lives.

The Result

Notice how we never explicitly state the benefits of using Gemini? This is a product film without a traditional product demo, and a human story without ever showing a human.

It’s a film about the people using the product.

I don't know if it's the music or how real the conversation is, but I had tears in my eyes by the end of it. Simple is beautiful!

Jennie Davis

Wow! What an amazing job you're doing helping people visualize their lives, empowered by the products you offer. You made it about them, not about you, and it works so well! You nailed the emotional tone, too! I'll be showing this to my team as great storytelling.

Brian Wilcox

As a father to an 8-year-old daughter, the storytelling hit home for me. It was a smart move to focus on the parent/child relationship rather than just the tech specs. It made the ecosystem feel genuinely helpful rather than intrusive.
